Saving Content

A fundamental aspect of the application is the ability to save your analytic and reporting content items. Obviously, it's crucial for both ongoing work with the application, but it also serves as the core mechanism for sharing content between projects and amongst users.

Since the ability to save content goes hand-in-hand with the ability to author and create content or change it, the save function is heavily rooted in the Pro app.

Viewers do have the ability to take existing content, change it with the Analyze Further interface, and save a copy for themselves.

Saving your content

There are four central points where content can be saved when you are creating or changing your content items in one of the apps:

  • You can save a specific item from the Status Bar. This is only the 'simple' save command.
  • You can save a discoveries, calculations, presentations, and publications that is currently being edited in the relevant app by typing the keyword save into the Chatbot. For more details, see Chatbot Functions
  • You can save a specific file using the App Tab Menu. This includes other save options, such as Save As and Save a new Version.
  • You can save ALL open tabs using the option on the App Tab Home menu.
  • You can save text, shapes, and images that have been added to presentations and publications using the Make Illustration Shareable function. Note: Once saved, these items can be shared directly from their context menu.

Save dialog

You will see the Save dialog in the following scenarios:

  • If you are saving an item for the first time and you need to indicate where it should be saved.
  • If you chose Save As, because you want to choose where to save the item and, if relevant, set its role access.

If an item has previously been saved (that is, it already exists in the content system), Save will simply commit the current changes to the database repository and you will not see this dialog.

Folders

The Folders panel contains a Favorites shortcut (yellow arrow) and the folder tree (purple highlight). Navigate through the tree and select the folder that you want to save your item to.

Favorites

Use the Favorites option to access those folders that you have flagged as "Favorites." The Favorites option is not a folder, it is a shortcut that allows you to go to your most commonly used or preferred folders without having to navigate the tree. When you access a Favorite folder in the Save dialog, you are actually saving the file to the location in the tree that you flagged as a favorite.

Folder Tree

You can choose where to save your content to in the folder structure. You are presented with those folders that you have WRITE access to. Once inside the folder tree, you can also access the folder navigation bar (orange arrow above) to more easily move around and add new folders to the tree on the spot (green arrow above).

  • My Content: The content in this domain is private. You should save to this folder when you don't want to share your content with others yet. Note that Admins will be able to see this content.
  • Workgroup Content: Group content is made READ and WRITE accessible to other users who share your security roles.
  • Public Content: Public content is made accessible to all user roles DEPENDING on the role security of the folder or item.

Metadata and Tags

Before a content item is saved, it MUST be given a name (brown highlight above). Optionally, it can also be given a description. Descriptions help the user and others understand what the item is, now and in the future. This is central to building out a data catalog of data and analytic assets inside Pyramid. The ability to tag all content items (blue arrow above) also helps when trying to search and categorize content.

Generating Descriptions

If there is a Gen-AI button alongside the Description field (black arrow above), you can click it to use the LLM to generate a Description on-the-fly. This option is only available in Discover or when saving calculations in Formulate, and is only enabled if your administrator has selected the Generative AI Features checkbox in the Admin Console.

Tip: If you are an administrator and you want to generate Descriptions for all your existing calculations, you can replace empty descriptions with generated descriptions using the Bulk Auto-Cataloging functionality.

Role Security for Public content

When saving content into the public folder domain, the new content inherits the security of the parent folder by default. You can clear the Auto set folder roles checkbox (green box above) if you want to manually assign roles to the item.

  • Click here to learn how to assign roles to items during save.

Closing Unsaved Items

You can close items at any time without saving them to the content system. When you close the unsaved item, you are prompted with a warning dialog:

  • Click Discard to close the app and discard any unsaved changes.
  • Click Cancel to continue working.
